The Faculty of Process and Systems Engineering seeks to fill the following vacancy at the Institute of Apparatus Design and Environmental Technology:

Research Associate / PostDoc (m/f/d) in the field of Battery Safety as part of the project Competence in Electric Mobility

The Institute for Apparatus Design and Environmental Technology is committed to research on sustainable energy conversion and use including related safety issues. For our third-party funded research project KEM III on safety of high-voltage, high-capacity batteries we are seeking for a research associate.

Job description:

  • Research on safety-related processes in large battery packages in our newly-erected Center for Methods development
  • Planning, conduction and evaluation of complex experiments on thermal hazards, deviations from normal operation and abuse conditions in batteries
  • Developing and applying numerical models for chemical reactions, heat and mass transfer during safety-related processes in batteries
  • Publication of research results in peer-reviewed scientific journals and presentation at international conferences
  • Scientific qualification (pursue PhD or similar)

Requirements profile:

  • Master‘s degree or equivalent in process engineering, heat and mass transfer, process safety or a closely related subject
  • Excellent skills in thermodynamics, heat and mass transfer and measurement techniques
  • Strong commitment to research including complex experiments
  • Creativity, potential for innovations, capability to work independently, but also with ability to work in a team
  • Fluency in written and spoken English language
  • Good German language skills (B2 level)
