Date commencing: 01.10.2024
Fixed term:
3 years
Contract status:
100 %

Conduction of research within a DFG project for a duration of three years with the major objective of analysing and modelling the behaviour of elongated fibres in turbulent wall-bounded flows, such as in pulp and paper industry.

Job description:

The project includes the following tasks:

  • Three-dimensional imaging experiments in an available horizontal water channel using shadowgraphy and multiple high-speed cameras
  • Determination of fibre behaviour (velocities and orientation) during wall interaction and collisions between fibres as well as derivation of Lagrangian models
  • Numerical predictions based on OpenFOAM using a RANS approach and development of a stochastic collision model for fibres
  • Close cooperation with the MVT research group (Prof. van Wachem) which determines fluid forces on fibres through simulations

Requirements profile:

  • Completed scientific University education with a Diploma or Master degree in the field of Engineering or Physics
  • Knowledge in the area of particle-laden multiphase flows and flow imaging techniques for the experimental studies
