The Faculty of Process and Systems Engineering seeks to fill the following vacancy at the Institute of Process Engineering, Chair of Thermal Process Engineering:

Research Assistant (m/f/d)

Salary scale:
13 TV-L
Date commencing:
as soon as
possible
Fixed term (until):
3 years
Contract status:
100 %

We are a university with a focus on engineering and natural sciences as well as economics, human sciences and medicine. We offer excellent study and working conditions to 13,000 students from Germany and abroad as well as approx. 3,000 employees.

The Chairs of Chemical Process Engineering and of Thermal Process Engineering are about to start with a joint research project, funded by the DFG and entitled: Coking and regeneration in single catalyst particles: An intra-particular approach by advanced experiments, mechanistic kinetics and adaptive pore network modeling.

The research assistant we are here looking for shall take over the task of developing the adaptive pore network model at the Chair of Thermal Process Engineering. This model will capture transport phenomena, desired reaction, and undesired reaction (coking) at the nanometer scale of catalyst pores that change their geometry due to coking for a relatively small computational domain. By deriving from the discrete pore network model parameters of adequate continuum models, scale up to the single catalyst pellet can be accomplished. Advanced measurements at this scale and reaction kinetics will be provided by the project partner Chair of Chemical Process Engineering.

The research assistant will have the opportunity of pursuing a PhD and can capitalize on the large experience that the Chair of Thermal Process Engineering has with pore network modeling.

Job description:

  • Fulfilling all research tasks in said DFG project which are assigned to the Chair of Thermal Process Engineering, especially concerning the development and use of adaptive pore network models
  • Cooperating closely with the Chair of Chemical Process Engineering in the frame of the project
  • Presenting and publishing research results
  • Supervising relevant student thesis
  • Pursuing a PhD

Requirements profile:

  • University degree (Master's/Diploma) in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering or neighbor disciplines
  • Experience with and affinity to modeling tools and mathematical methods used in chemical/process engineering
  • Motivation and scientific curiosity, systematic manner of work, ability to cooperate
  • Very good English language skills (writing and speaking)

Your benefits:

  • You have the opportunity to pursue a PhD and are supported and promoted accordingly.
  • Our Research Funding and Graduate Academy support services help you with your personal development.
  • You can expect a varied and responsible job with a wide range of contacts.
  • You will be integrated in internationally visible research teams.
