At the Chair of Thermal Process Engineering (Prof. Tsotsas, www.tvt.ovgu.de), the successful candidate will pursue research work in the project “Autonomous structure formation processes in spray fluidized bed agglomeration”, which is a part of DFG priority program SPP 2364 (http://www.mvm.kit.edu/SPP2364_APP.php). Research will be conducted jointly with two other PhD candidates, advised by Prof. Bück (Erlangen, online monitoring) and Prof. Kienle (Magdeburg, automatic control), respectively. The overall goal is to enable the automatic and controlled production of spray fluidized bed agglomerates with prescribed agglomerate structure and, thus, prescribed and controllable end-user properties. The researcher at TVT will be in charge of all transient and steady-state spray fluidized bed experiments to be conducted jointly with the project partners. Additionally, of offline agglomerate characterization, application of already available highly resolved discrete process models, measurements and model development for significant peripheral parts of the process. The opportunity to pursue a PhD is given and is supported accordingly.

Requirements for the position:

  • Above-average master degree or equivalent in chemical engineering or similar
  • Ability and motivation to independent and focused, cutting-edge research
  • Fluency and ability to present/publish in English, German knowledge would be of advantage.
