This is a qualification position within the meaning of the German Act on Fixed-Term Academic Contracts (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz, WissZeitVG) and is intended for the completion of a doctoral research project. The position is limited to the duration of the doctoral project, initially for a period of up to four years.

The doctoral project investigates individual determinants of behavioral strategy formation during voluntary task switching in a multitasking context. The focus lies on computational behavioral modeling at the interface between artificial intelligence and statistical data analysis. The theoretical objectives include the conceptualization of behavioral strategies using Markov decision processes, embedding optimal decision strategies within a statistical inference framework, and extending this approach to a dipole-based EEG model.

The project is part of the DFG Research Unit FOR6047 “Voluntary task switching: Cognitive processes and models to account for task choices.” The research unit provides structured doctoral training and opportunities for exchange with experts from psychology and cognitive science in the fields of decision research and behavioral modeling.

Job description:

• Conducting the research project within the Research Unit FOR6047
• Planning and conducting theoretical and empirical studies and publishing the results in peer-reviewed international journals
  
• Participation in the academic self-administration of the institute
  
• Academic qualification within the framework of a doctoral degree
  

Requirements profile:

• Completed academic university degree (Master of Science) in psychology, cognitive science, data science, neuroscience, computer science, mathematics, or a related field
• Interest in cognitive psychology and computational behavioral modeling using methods from artificial intelligence, machine learning, and statistics
  
• Motivation to conduct scientific research within a collaborative research group
  

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in computational behavioral modeling
  
• Experience in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and statistics
  
• Very good programming skills (e.g., Python, Julia, Matlab)
