We are a university with a focus on engineering and natural sciences as well as economics, human sciences and medicine. We offer excellent study and working conditions to 13,000 students from Germany and abroad as well as approx. 3,000 employees.

The Department of Systems Biology at the Faculty of Natural Sciences at OVGU investigates molecular mechanisms of humoral signal transduction in physiological and pathophysiological cellular model systems. Information on our projects can be found at www.systembiologie.ovgu.de.

We are looking for two PhD students (subject to funding approval) for the EFRE project "Signalling proteins as intracellular target structures for peptides: a new, targeted molecular-therapeutic approach". In this project, peptide-based approaches will be developed that enable targeted intervention in pathologically altered signalling pathways. The adapter protein Gab1 serves as the target protein.

Job description:

  • Quantitative experimental studies on Gab1-dependent signal transduction networks using biochemical, molecular biological methods
  • Establishment and optimisation of the use of inhibitory peptides
  • Application of theoretical/systems biology approaches to unravel signalling networks and targets for peptide-based inhibition

Requirements profile:

Qualified applicants (m/f/d) are highly motivated and hold a scientific Diploma/Master's degree in biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, or related subjects. Experience in the analysis of signal transduction and/or mammalian cell culture is an asset. Excellent knowledge in English is obligatory. Strong motivation to work independently with the support and guidance of a very co-operative team is expected.
