Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg (OVGU) is an internationally oriented and regionally networked university with a strong research profile.
The Faculty of Natural Sciences seeks to fill the following vacancy at the Institute of Biology:
We are looking for a highly motivated individual with interest in both basic and translational neuroscience research to join our team at the Institute of Biology. The successful applicant will apply state-of-the art AAV tools for the targeted opto- and chemogenetic manipulation of specific neuron populations and cellular signaling pathways in the mouse brain. We are particularly interested in manipulating specific interneuron populations in the hippocampus, as well as memory encoding engram cells, using both local and systemic AAV delivery. The successful candidate will also investigate the behavioral and molecular changes in the mouse model after the acute manipulations.

The successful candidate will work in an interdisciplinary team of researchers at the Department of Genetics & Molecular Neurobiology, Institute of Biology (https://www.genetik.ovgu.de). We are addressing hippocampal circuit mechanisms underlying memory formation and its modulation through emotional factors, and pathologies related to these processes. Our research is embedded in local research networks, such as the Collaborative Research Center 1436 “Neural resources of cognition”, the research training group 2413 “SynAGE”, the Research group 5228 “Syntophagy” and the German Center for Mental Health. For more information please contact Prof. Oliver Stork (oliver.stork(at)ovgu.de).
Experience in virus handling (including gene technology regulations, particularly S1 level), their stereotactic application to the mouse brain, as well as molecular, anatomical and behavioral analysis of mice is expected.
Additional experience in state-of-the-art molecular and cell culture techniques will be beneficial.
