We are seeking a highly motivated individual with a strong interest in neuroscience to join the research group “Synapto-Oscillopathies” at the Department of Genetics & Molecular Neurobiology. The successful candidate will contribute to a project investigating the impact of amygdala hyperactivity on oscillatory synchrony across brain regions. This project is funded by the DFG (Project #: 569053334) and is conducted in close collaboration with internationally recognized laboratories as well as the local scientific community in Magdeburg. The position offers the opportunity to work in an interdisciplinary research environment and gain hands-on experience in cutting-edge neuroscience techniques.

Job description:

  • The successful candidate will investigate the impact of amygdala hyperactivity on in vivo network oscillations by performing multi-site local field potential (LFP) recordings in animal models of anxiety and fear.
  • She/he will conduct in vivo electrophysiological analyses to study oscillatory processes underlying engram formation and stability, and integrate these experiments with chemogenetic intervention strategies.

Requirements profile:

  • Master's degree and PhD degree in Neuroscience or a related field.
  • In-depth experience in in vivo electrophysiology and stereotactic surgeries; ability to independently plan, conduct, and analyze experiments, and prepare results for publication.
  • Strong motivation to learn new methodologies, including behavioral assays in mice (fear/anxiety tests) combined with chemogenetics/optogenetics; intensive mentoring will be provided.
  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to work in an international and interdisciplinary environment.
  • Your ability for communication in English is excellent.
